Size wise, how does a 4566 compare to a commander size 1911? I know both are single stack .45's with 4.25" barrels, but beyond that I'm in the dark. I've been thinking about picking up a Colt XSE Commander for off duty carry, but considering our issue pistol is a 4566* I'm thinking it might be kind of redundant. Are the Smith's any taller (or otherwise larger) than a 1911? *I'm ...

Im interested in a 9mm 1911 commander size. The problem is that the 1911 in 9mm is not readily availible and/or the few models that are availible our $$$$. I'ld perfer a commander size pistol which got me thinking of converting a CC size 38 Super to 9mm. Again the price is $$$$. This lead me to consider the Hi-Power. The problem is I dont know a thing about them. I've been searching and ...

Old Mr. Rabbit, 98, passed away Tuesday afternoon in Napa, California after a sudden illness. Mr. Rabbit was born in Oakland on June 1, 1911. His father was a carpenter. As a child he lived in Oakland, San Francisco and Sacramento (he always referred to Capitol Mall as "M Street") before the family settled in Stockton when he was about 6. He married Mrs. Rabbit, a ...

Hello everyone, 1st time poster. This is a great site with tons of info. I'm a long time shooter (20yrs) looking to purchase a 1911. I just got married and bought a house so I'd like to stay in the $500-$600 range, maybe a bit more. I'm looking for a 1911 with a decent range of features: ambi safety(lefty), beavertail, 3-dot sight, skeletonized trigger. I've done a decent amount of ...

I posted about a week ago about suggestions for a 1911 style 9mm. I stipulated that $$$ was not a problem. I did not know that 9mm were so pricey. I am looking into a Fusion 9mm. I am looking to pay for pistol for about or less than $1,500.00. 5" barrel is a must. Seems a lot of 1911 style 9mm are in stainless steel. I am looking for for one with a black finish. I have a colt .45 ...

Hi everyone, got a problem with my 1.5 month old S&W 1911. I noticed this last night, there is a problem with the pin that connects the front of the safety to the slide stop lever. (What is this piece called officially) Here is the piece right here: What happens, is when I work the safety on and off repeatedly, the narrow piece if metal (kind of resembles a firing pin)...

Just saw Jerry Miculek fire his Smith and Wesson 1911 at 622 rounds per minute. Wtf lol, this dude is the man, hands down. He was trying to out do a Uzi I think it was and he did it. I'm hunting a video of it, new show on Outdoor channel I think so probably not up yet. I'll post if I find it.

The Uzi rate of fire is 600 RPM, Jerry tries to fire 7 rounds all on target from a S&W 1911 at a faster rate of fire than 600 RPM, it was cool to watch but I won't say if he was successful until after 2AM set you DVRS It is being repeated at 2 AM tonight The Uzi Challenge Jerry Miculek tries to out-run a machine gun with a 1911 pistol; splitting miniature playing cards; ...

Long story short. Have a decent series 80 Colt 1911. Have been refining the trigger pull. Up to date it has always been variable. Any where from 6# to 5# pull any given squeeze. If I cock it manually the pull is fairly consistent 5.50# to 6 ish. If I slingshot the slide, the ratio remains the same, but the pounds pull jumps into the 6# to 7# range. The troubleshooting road led me to the ...

I just came across this website: http://www.coolgunsite.com/funcheck/function.htm It's a guide for inspecting the various safeties and functions of a used 1911. I know basically how a 1911 works, but one thing here has me confused. In the third and fourth steps down from the top, it says to keep the trigger pressed and rack the slide. It says that if the gun is functioning ...

This is a long shot but as the eternal optimist I thought that I would try.... I have a new in the bag Matt Del Fatti ISP-LP that I would like to trade. It is for a 5" 1911, cordovan, RH & with 1.5" loops. I bought this from LAS earlier this year fully expecting to buy a stainless pistol but I ended up with a green one. Green and cordovan isn't ideal, and so I would like to try ...
