the oil cap says 5w-30 but in California I see 32 degree weather maybe 5 times a year and 100+ 40 days. Can I run 10w-30 without damaging anything, is there an advantage with 5w compared to 10w. I have 20k on 04 Sierra truck and 50k on 04 Yukon I am using castrol syntec in both. Thanks for any input.

Called Pennzoil and they mailed me the spec sheet for SuperTech 10W-30 synthetic. I asked for the sheet for the 5W-30 too and the rep looked but could not find it and his comment was, "Maybe we don't make that one." Seems to support the typical WalMart experience of frequent vendor/supplier changes. At least as of this writing, and since 3/30/05 according to the fine ...

Previously, I've been using 10W-20. Yesterday, I put in 10W-30. The car actually feels better and less noise. I have an old 1995 nissan. 1 - does this mean that 10W-30 is actually better? 2 - what do all the other "numbers" mean? ie 5W-10, 0W-10, etc.... Usually, the mech puts in the oil for me, but it was running fairly low yesterday, so I decided to buy the Castrol 10W-30 from ...

How good is this Mystik HD oil compared to Rotella? I am having a hard time getting anything but 15w-40 Rotella around here, but the local Theisens has Mystik HD semi synthetic for 19 bucks for 2 gallons.

Changed it back in August with Shell Rotella T 10W-30 and put on a new Amsoil oil filter. Previous fill 5,000 miles of the same oil, see previous UOA here. Fourth sample of 8/20/09 was the previous fill of Rotella T 10W-30 and did not get a new filter, left the Amsoil filter on for 2 runs. Third sample of 5/15/09 was Rotella T 10W-30 and a new Amsoil filter. Second sample of 7/28/08 was GC ...

would 5w 30 motor oil run at a lower PSI then 10w 30 motor oil? Becasue last time I did an oil change I used 5w 30 oil and now after my truck warms up and I drive to work when i stop at a stop sign or put my truck in park, my oil pressure drops down low, actually once my truck warms up the oil psi is a little lower then if I run 10w 30 like usual. Ive got a new high pressure oil pump, and new ...

what i'm gathering from the few posts I'm finding around the internet is I can use any SAE 10W-30 engine oil (preferably synthetic) for my 50cc moped which I purchased a few weeks ago (manual calls for SAE 10W-30, doesn't get any more specific). Yet, I've noticed that many manufacturers produce engine oil that specifically states "4 Stroke" on the bottle. So is alright to use regular engine ...

Kind of funny that everybody started in on the science of oil viscosity and trying to prove each other wrong when the guy who originaly made this thread might have a genuine engine problem not related to what oil weight he uses at all. Just an observation.

geez i'm not rants, but the engines GM is producing now are just awesome, LS2, LS3, and for the vettes LS7, LS9. even my old 94 LT1 w/ 100K doesn't burn oil, < 1/2 qt in 3K, i attribute that to volatilation. and talk about driven hard... true, their sedans leave much to be desired, and now owned 61% by the fed but where would all the hotrodders be w/o the GM small block to swap in? the...

I was just curious about the zinc and phos levels since I will be using it in an old 440 Magnum MOPAR motor with a flat tappet cam. I've had good luck with the Mystic 15-40 in my SB ...

Nice report! I envy you the LBZ engine. Must be nice to have no DPF. I lost 17% on my OLM in one day 44kms driving during a DPF regen. That's a new record. It was a day of short trips at around freezing. It shows how hard GM thinks the regen is on the oil. I'll be sampling at -7% OLM shortly and we'll see about fuel dilute. You're lucky you don't have this to contend with. Is your EGR ...
