Hello cmcmille,
There are so many things that could be wrong that it's hard to say (for me, anyway). Here is a shotgun blast of thoughts that came to me while reading your story...

I have no idea how to compile kernels, let alone know exactly what they are (sorry have about 6 months experience). Not sure how to get started on that..

I haven't made much progress is figuring this all out.. however, I got the link to say that is it ready (although I forget how). No luck with NetworkManger still... maybe using WEP has something to do with it?
Any further advice is greatly appreciated, the module list looks like
lsmod | sort
8139cp 18140 0
8139too 21352 0
ac97_bus ...

Well, ndiswrapper is loaded. That's often the hardest part. And I didn't see any conflicting wireless modules to blacklist. So that's all you needed to see in that lsmod report.

Hello cmcmille
There's a thread here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...g311v3-4002 57/
on Linux Questions where they reckon to have got your particular card working with ndiswrapper using a specific driver from Netgear.
If you haven't tried that particular driver it may be worth uninstalling the one you have used and trying that.
Code:
ndiswrapper -e <name...
Well tried doing that, still having issues with the card unfortunately which is really starting to bug me since I've had a cord down my hallway for the last month or so. Anyways tried everything I really think of.. and got a little more familar with the system. I don't remember where I found the error, but I found an error that iwconfig fails to add the encrytion key. I was thinking switching to ...
