That's the problem with aftermarket filters. I have absolutely no doubt that some aftermarket oil filters are identical to BMW rebranded filters - probably Mahle, they seem the same - and that other aftermarket oil filters are as good or better than BMW rebranded filters. And I have no doubt that somebody builds one that is as good, with the same bypass pressure and totally suitable.

I've used WIX on a couple Yamahas and on my airhead. I researched them before I first used them a few years ago - much better than Purolators and the sort as I recall.
Here's a short review of a few filters, including a WIX .

...how much cheaper is cheaper? Dpesn't seem worth the switch to me to save a couple bucks realative to the damage a failed filter ...
Wix makes a good quality filter...they are not a knockoff of other filters, as far as I know...if they contain the same parts, etc, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't work fine...but again, as the others said, it's all about whatcha feel comfy with...
I bought a napa filter, the threads around the filter body were not very tight, actually a very low quality filter, I was qite srprised. would never even dream, and i have some good ones(!) of installing that filter on my bike. The filter is SO important, I now wonder why I even thought of cutting a corner. Yes, there is a fair amount of price difference, but considering the damage that could ...

I use Bosch from Bob/s BMW, can't see to find them local. 2004 R1150gs runs better than the day I bought it new and has 75,000 miles on the clock. Do all my own oil changes and have never had a problem. Just my opinion why pay $21.00 a filter when you can pay under $7 Brett Endress Altoona pa
