Sounds like there might be some problems with the circuitry elli and this is not an area I have any expertise it at all. I'll move this topic to the Hardware Forum and hopefully someone there can offer a suggestion that will help you.

There is a high possibility your system is infected because your running an un-updated Windows XP.
Youre at Service Pack 2 and your way behind on security updates and other important updates.
You need to boot to Safe Mode with Networking (press F8 key during boot up) and go to Windows Update
and get that operating system updated. Service Pack 3 needs to be installed and a whole mess...
