how can i check if i have windows 7 ultimate rc or a pirated win 7 ultimate? thanks

If it's Windows 7 Release Candidate, then it doesn't really matter, does it?

Well... did you install the RC or a pirated version of the final release? If so I expect you'll find that this thread will be closed sharpish.

Then it's the RC, and you've nothing to be bothered about. "Windows 7 Release Canditate Build 7100" or something like that should be printed to the bottom right of the desktop. The only thing that might get you in a spot of bother is that Win7 RC is deactivated in March.

I'm pretty sure you'll find it's not legal to sell a PC with either version on it. If you're selling a PC with Windows 7, it will need to be a legit copy that you have the product key for (i.e. one that was purchase through a retailer).

It's not illegal, it would just make Microsoft unhappy. Shed a tear and move along.

If it has the RC installed (as aidanjt states it will show this in the bottom right of the desktop) and you state when selling that it is the RC then you've done nothing wrong. In fact, if they try Windows 7 RC and like it you might be doing MS a favour, because then whoever you sell the computer to might buy a copy when the RC starts rebooting every 2 hours in March 2010 .
