Thread: why do aftermarket intakes work better than drop ins?

im going to get a new cai, but i started thinking. why would a new intake work better than my stock intake with a gotts mod, intake silencer mod and drop in performance filter? is it just because of the larger surface area on a cai's filter, or does the air just flow better on the intake tube? if you could please explain your answer, dont just say, "on the stock intake elbow, the airflow ...

Its because the smooth design of the tube and the filter combined. Instead of hear rushing into little walls in your tube, and having to go through all the ups and downs of a regular air cleaner shaft, it basically filters the air from the start, and its an almost strait shot to the Throttle. Therefore, better air flow, and this meaning, more air.
Actually its probably better to leave in the silencer because it is smoothed out. Only thing it seemed to do when i removed mine is make the intake a little more throaty sounding..thats about it...
