Thread: which Mapei on ply

been reading nearly all the posts on here and everyone is telling me to buy Mapei because its cheaper and as good as bal. there are that many different types and i am confused. floor is ply on floorboards fitting underfloor heating 24sqm 600x600 polished porcelain tiles please help thanks dan

you have a few options really.... 1. overboard with hardi or eqiv. 2. lay heatmat...use slc or adhesive to cover wire. 3. tile away -------- 1.lay heatmat 2. Fibreplan heatmat. 3. tile away in either case i would use keraquick, but you can use keraflex maxi... more info on your skill would help!

You want the flexible stuff suitable for porcelain. Though I'll let the lads name the brand/make as I don't tile anymore. For the record, Mapei is the largest manufacturer of building materials in the world. BAL has a chunk of the UK market share. That's why the price is better for better gear if you go with Mapei. You'll want flexi adhesive,you can use keraflex or P9.Make sure the floorboards are secure and the play is screwed every 250mm and prime the top and sides of the ply.

keraquick is s1 without latex plus, its S2 with latex plus...and then you can stick to metal........

my skills are minimum. am electrician by trade but done some wall tiling and done a pretty good job of it also does the face of the ply need sealing if i use mapei

sorry to be thick whats the difference between s1 s2?? would i better using a single part adhesive considering im an amature

You want the flexible stuff suitable for porcelain. Though I'll let the lads name the brand/make as I don't tile anymore. For the record, Mapei is the largest manufacturer of building materials in the world. BAL has a chunk of the UK market share. That's why the price is better for better gear if you go with Mapei. Checkout their grout-ranges too, loads of colour choices, and they match their silicones. No other manufacturer...

If you go down the Keraflex route, make sure its Keraflex Maxi and not the ordinary Keraflex, as the normal stuff can only be used on tiles up to 300 x 300 for UFH installs (according to the tech sheets)
