Thread: what weight of oil?

its a 525i and i live in arizona so i understand i need to use some different weight oil?

I´d use Castrol RS 10w60 if your engine is in good running condition (no oil burn). Or 5w50 Mobil 1if it´s in great condition.

Mobil 1 5w/50 would be pretty hard to find in the states. For hot AZ weather use Valvoline synthetic 20w/50 or Mobil 1 15w/50.

what about 0w20? for the big 8? I can get 8 quarts of Royal Purple 0w20 off the shelf here..

I used to run 20w50 M1. After talking the shop owner that did my e30s52 swap (also does alot of race prep work, and maintance for the Lane Motor Musium) he had switched to a lighter oil 10w40/10w30 M1. Most, if not all VANOS clogging failures he worked on were only on motors that ran heavy weight oils 15w/20w50 +, his shop does work on other makes besides BMW, but more than 95% are BMW. I...

what about 0w20? for the big 8? I can get 8 quarts of Royal Purple 0w20 off the shelf here..
