Not being familar with 405s, my first guess would be a charcoal canister, part of the emission control system. It captures fuel vapours, preventing them from venting to the atmosphere.

in stripping my 405 mi16 for parts, i found this under the front left wheel guard..and a little stumped at what it might be..being relatively new to working on cars..can anyone help me identify what marvel of engineering this might be?
EDIT: the little canister thing with the pipes running off to fairy land/engine bay
