Thread: what did I get myself into?

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by hard_dawg
Ok, so I'm pretty much new to this small car thing. I just bought a Focus SE single cam today yesterday $150 that needs a motor. I know the single cam (spi, correct?) motors are notorious for dropping valve seats so I really don't want to put another one in there. What gets me is Duratec, Zetec, blah blah blah. I don't care about making mad power, that's what my 454 is for. What I DO care ...

if it is an automatic you could use the same tranny on a zetec. in order to use the zetec you will need the under hood engine harness, the harness from the ecu to under the hood on the passenger side, the ecu, and to have the keys reflashed. the exhausts are different so make sure you have a zetec exhaust. zetec would be the easiest i assume. i have just completed my spi to zetec swap on my ...

the simplest is another SPI engine...... the cheaper option is a Zetec. As mentioned, if it's an auto transaxle, Zetec and SPI are the same. if not you'll need another one. I do not know about the Duratec auto transaxle. 00-04 focus sedans LX and SE had the 8v SOHC (SPI) engine in them. Some 00-04 wagons were also equipped with the same engine. ZX3 and ZX5 models were not equipped with ...

thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. like i've said before and will probably say again, this is completely uncharted territory for me. the car was just too good a deal to pass up lol. It is an auto tranny with the single cam, so it looks like all i really need is the motor, comp, wiring, etc... and the search shall continue. maybe i can stumble on a deal for a motor like i did on the ...

My 2001 automatic SE SOHC motor just grenaded and I want to swap to the DOHC motor. So if I understand everything correctly... I need motor, computer, wire harneses ,exhaust, and motor mounts??? How compatible are the wire harneses??? I'm pretty good w/ mechanical, but electrical scares me!!!

the part that plugs into the computer and goes through the fire wall and into the engine bay needs changed. so does the actual engine harness. then you just need the motor and computer and your keys reprogrammed.
