Thread: weetabix and ready brek?

Started 1 month ago by nikkiandneil
Can our April babies have these now? I have been giving Abby baby porridge, but it woul be good if she can just have these instead. How do you sweeten them without adding sugar? Would adding fruit puree work? xxx

I think they can have both from 6 months - but watch with weetabix as it may bung them up a bit! re sweetetning it - I guess fruit puree would work! I am going to try Ella on plain weetabix as it will be good if she accepts it like that! If not I shall probably add fruit to it too!

Hiya, I have been giving Ethan weetabix and ready brek since he turned 6mths without any problems at all - he loves both! With regard to sweetening it, I personally don't bother, Ethan still really enjoys his breakfast. I have on occasions put fruit puree or mashed banana in with it but not as a rule. x

I tried Ella today with nothing added (apart from formula of course!) and she wolfed the lot down! Woop woop!

if your making readybrek and your lo is over 6months you can use full fat cows milk, i make us a portion and we share it. Redybrek is so much better for babies than baby poridge as there is a shocking amount of sugar in baby poridge. Pippa will eat redybrek without anything in but loves it with a bit of mashed pear in xxx

Yeah, I use full fat cows milk as well. He's not the best at drinking water so Im wondering if maybe I should try him with full fat cows milk to encourage him to drink more as I don't want to give him juice. I am still bf though - do you think that would be ok as Im not trying to substitute his usual milk feed?? x

I have just started charlie on ready brek he loves it! I like the others don't add any sugar. He wolfs the lot down! xx

Becky - you can't give it as a drink until 1 year old can you? Only on cereals and in cooking!

MrsS1258 replied 1 month ago
Well that was what I was wondering, but I thought that they werent supposed to have cows milk as a main drink, ie replacement of their usual milk feed - I want to replace water with it not his actual milk feed... I am confused now! LOL

Im sure i read somewhere although it wont harm them, theres certain proteins in cows milk there unable to break down, dont know the ins and outs though...like i said earlier, Evan rarely took water on its own, i put a splash of fresh cranberry in the water and hel happily drink it...i cant taste it when i try it but must taste different to him x

If it just sips Becky then I would think it may be ok as if it is on cereal that is quite a bit anyway! Don't quote me though!

Babies can find cows milk harder to digest coursing tummy ache hence keeping to cooking and cereals only untill 1year. Plus it doesn't contain the amount of iron and vitamins needed for our lo's. Well that is what my HV told me when I have my first 2 years ago. God I sound like a 'know it all' X X X

Now I know none of our little ones are 10 months yet, but when I was in Tesco this week they had the new 10 month + Heinz cereals on offer so I got a banana one and a berries one. They're very small flakes and seeing as Nate has everything mashed now we tried him with the berry one this morning and he wolfed it down! We're having problems getting him to eat anything that is smooth so it's ideal! Just thought I'd let you...
