Thread: using blast

Started 2 months, 2 weeks ago by blue_bear
Hi I am trying to find some orthologs and paralogs for this gene called san-1 in C. elegans with blast. I'm not quite sure if i'm using the blast correctly as all I seem to find is one ortholog called Bub-1 ?? any hints to using blast to find homologs? thanks in advance!

what is the difference between the %identity and %positive? How do I interpret these % for them to be significant homologs? and what about e value. I know an E value of <0.001 is significant.
