Thread: towing capacity series 3

hi had a quik look in the threads but cannot find anything what im after nowing basicaly i may end up buying 2 landrover series 3s 200miles round trip away from me .could i tow 1 of them on my a braked twin axle trailer ? the trailer weighs 900kgs twin axle braked indispention trailer? my car is a series 3 88 2 1/4 petrol with overdrive just re overhauled the brakes so all good. or would it be...

i was thinking of trying to make 1 to fit onto the 2 towing eyes on but if not the first option is the trailer if it will tow it as for £60 for the weekend its pritty cheap and will do the job if only the car will

Hi, 900kg trailer? Where did you get that figure? My twin axle boat trailer, 30ft long, weighed 752kg unladen. What does the trailer plate say about its MGW? What size are the trailer tyres? Are they C rated? Their max load capacity should be on tyre sidewall. Assume SWB weighs 1500kg (which it doesn't), and trailer weighs 900kg, your Landy should pull it OK. But be very careful ...

just rung indispention up erlier to see about hireing one and they have a twin axle capable of putting 2.4 tonnes on it they say but it weighs 900kg he said and my landrover unlaidend says 2025kgs so just woundering if it would tow the trailer and the landrover on the trailer legaly or am i either better off using my defender 90 2.5 derv to tow it but then in same boat there not nowing if it ...

A defender can tow 3500kg legaly so long as the driver s correctly licensed. However towing that kind of weight is no joke and requires vehicle and trailer in top condition, properly loaded, and a driver who knows what he's doing. I think the max for a series is 2000kg.

i'll agree with the last poster with 2000kg being the max towable behind an 88 (legally) ... i've no idea about the 109 but i'd expect 2500kg, more hopefully once i get mine on the road one of the things i'd be concerned with is making sure the trailer brakes are absolutely spot on when towing with an 88, i've had a car on a straight bar push mine sideways when the guy i was towing didn't ...

the problem with an a frame is it turns the other car in to a trailer wich means no one can sit in wich basical leave you with an unbreaked trialer weighing 1500kg or what ever they whey
