Thread: timing of tax return

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by waltzer
Am I correct in assuming that the SA return for 09/10 should be completed by end of 2010?

If you file online, then you have until 31st January 2011 to complete the return for FY 2009/10, but it is best to get it over with as soon as possible I think. It is possible there is an earlier deadline if you want HMRC to collect tax owed via your PAYE code. If you post a return, the deadline is 31st October 2009. Again, you can send the return much earlier than that it you want to.

Do you mean Oct 2010 for posting it? Also, by getting it over asap can you submit online anytime during 2010?

Yes, I meant 2010. If you file by post, you can do a return as soon as you get the form: they often arrive around the end of April. Once you start filing online, you can just check to see if they are ready for you yet: this will be any time after April 6th.
