Thread: thinking bout cuttin' the can

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by roadrash32433
I'm thinking about cutting down my exhaust can... it's a little too long and I've already had one incident where I scrubbed it and went down. anyone have any advice, tips, tricks, etc. on this project. I hate to butcher a $300 exhaust can if ya know what I mean... I wanna do it right and do a good job. open for suggestions.

if you can find someone with a chopsaw this will make the end cut easy and square.

I cut my stocker in half....used a hacksaw. did a hack-job. heh. but I smoothed it all out real nice with a dremel, but a chopsaw like badassjake said would eliminate the hour and half it took me to saw through the steel outer and 4 steel inner baffles. sore arms for days and a near dull hacksaw. your pipe wouldn't be as rough as the stocker of course.

I cut my jardine RT1 race can down by 5 inches a few months ago.. made it a deeper sound down low and sounds wicked at full noise

thanx guys, good info and links. I checked out some more threads and the only thing I hear bad is people having to tune their bikes... has anyone had this problem with the bike running too rich after shortening the exhaust? and which end should I cut off, top or bottom?

no welding necessary. Just rivet it together and you are good.

I've cut every "pipe" i've ever had on a bike , including the carbon Akra that is on it right now . I was more nervous doing the Akra (worth way to much to fuck up) than any other pipe .
