Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by hamed23100
Hi, we are enom reseller for 5 years, we have registered more than 2300 domains with them, when we was becomming their reseller, we asked them if they have any problem with our customers because they are from iran and we are in UAE and they said no, and as i know us law does not ask us companies to check their resellers customers, BUT NOW after 5 years, our resellers got email from enom ...

I think this could be more to do with what trade embargos that may or may not be in place. I know we asked the US embassy in the UK if there were any a few years ago and there wasn't, I will ask again on Monday otherwise there should be no reason unless your resellers domain are more of a risque nature etc.

our clients from Iran also have issues with registering and renewing domains, but we had no cases with frozen domain. Hope we will not have in future..

According to Wikipedia there has been a no-trade embargo on Iran from the US since 79 so if Enom is US based they never should of permitted anything from Iran. "Currently the sanctions include a total embargo on dealings with Iran by U.S. citizens" Enom lists it's place of business as Washington so they would be subject to such. I would contact an attorney, perhaps you were never aware of...

hi, yes enom can not do bussiness to iran directly, but their resellers that are not based on us can do bussiness with iran while their country didnt blocked bussiness to iran, and also enom shouldnt send email directly to users of their resellers, i think this is not correct and is illegal,

Nah I think your wrong. Enom is providing the service. I don't use Enom. Who collects the payment information and who holds the address information? If any of that information is stored at Enom they are basically doing business with your clients in Iran.

hamed23100 replied 1 month, 3 weeks ago
hi, users do not pay via credit cards they pay cash to us and we pay to enom, so they are not doing bussiness with enom directly. they just have admin information and technical information of them not billing information of them, for us company it is important who pays not who is responsible, admin and technical are persons who control domain not who that pay for

I'd simply move on to another Registrar, perhaps someone who wasn't in the US.

hamed23100 replied 1 month, 3 weeks ago
yes, that is good but what you say to your customers? do you pay transfer expenssess yourself or you ask your users? are they agree to pay if they said no you are responsible to give them services for all period they have bought domain

I think Enom is still in violation of the embargo by providing service to Iran. None of the ICANN companies are in Iran. It's probably against the law for ICANN to do business with any Iran companies as well. I believe this was recently brought up as ICANN is trying to dance around the law, perhaps Iran can do business with them but they don't seem to have any companies. Anyone doing ...

Its the Registrar that transacts business when one registers a domain, so how would ICANN be a party?
