Thread: tach and speedo work occasionally....

So I just had a VR swap done in my 96 cabrio. Its a OBDII swap and My gauges seem to cut in and out. Any ideas as to where I should begin looking? I checked behind the cluster for a loose connection..no dice. I looked under the hood, but dont see anything out of place. It works when its cool out, or when I first start it, if I just run to the store, when I come out it doesnt work??? HELP ME OBIE-ONE YOUR MY ONLY HOPE!!!!!

i have this same problem in my b4 passat. My cluster lights flicker and the speedo and tach act pretty crazy above 40mph it seems. Everything else electrical wise with the car is fine. Fuses, connections seemed fine so I took the cluster out and everything seemed fine too. Going to try cleaning my grounds in the engine bay and then buy another cluster to see if that fixes it. Like to see what other people can chime in with.
