Thread: swine flu concern?

Started 1 month ago by CarlCarl
my husband is just getting over the h1n1 virus. we have kept him pretty much separated from my 2 year old, and have used lysol and hand sanitizer nearly constantly (haha)... well she now has  101º fever and I'm really worried. She doesn't have any other symptoms, but she rarely gets sick so I haven't had to deal with fevers like this very much. Should I be worried? Should I call the doc???

I was reading a post about shoes and it got me wondering what size shoe everybody's LO's wear. My little guy has huge feet (atleast i think they are big). He wears size 8-9. Anybody else?

I just bought my gal a new pair of shoes from Stride Rite at about 50.00 for one pair.  The only reason I spent this much was because she has had trouble with walking late and now keeping her balance.  However, she measured 5.5 and I got a 6.  If I want her to wear these all winter should I get a 6.5?  OR will her feet not grow as fast now that she's two?  Would appreciate any advice as I ...

I don't think her feet will grow a whole size during winter...but my mother says that with the chance of season feet grow. My DS was size 4 when he turned 1 and he's been size 5 for the past few months.

Gabi has grown a full size every 3-4 mos since Feb. She was a 4 in Jan and is now a 7 so I'm getting her 7.5 and 8 for the winter. I like shoes to fit and not be too big. She's got narrow feet so no way she can walk in any shoe that's more than a half size larger. FWIW you can always resell that pair online to help fund the next size up. The beauty of buying high end shoes is they hold value.

We just went to my cousins party who turned 5 and they rented for her. Bella had a BLAST so no I don't think it's to young. We did separate the big and little kids while jumping and it took her a couple of tries to get used to it, but after awhile we couldn't get her out.

That sounds awesome Erica. It's finally cooling down here so I think we'll take a zoo trip this month.   Thanks Jamie! OMG you guys are due so soon!! You, Rachel, Christy right? Wow! Go for it. It's never too early if they're showing interest. Gabi has used the potty since she was 6 mos old and has been fully trained since 20 mos. Yay for your LO!!

LivsNonna replied 3 months, 1 week ago
Thanks all for your input. It's very much appreciated. It's been a couple of weeks and still no progress with the potty training. I haven't made a big deal about it, still using lots of praise when she uses it but not making a fuss when she doesn't. I just ask her where she is supposed to pee, she tells me the potty and that's that. when she first started training she hated being wet or ...

Thanks Julie. I didn't even know they still make training pants. That just might be the perfect solution. Where can I get them?

OT: unisex gift ideas?

That is a tough one...also depends on the price limit. I've done that kind of exchange with family before but it's always been just as a fun $5 limit kind of thing. I like the movie/popcorn/blockbuster card kind of thing. there's always sausage and cheese for something easy. like pp said you can't go wrong with wine...maybe with an opener and little glass tags and cheese? something like that? let us know what you end up...

# of words?
Published (2009-12-11 00:00:00)
I stopped counting ds's words at around 25-30...that was at 18 months. I would say he knows several hundreds of words, though. He just started 3-4 word sentences about a month ago. He knows all the letters of the alphabet, capital and lower case, counts to 15 in English and 8 in Spanish (except he misses siete!). This is all a fairly recent development, though. Really, within the last 2-3 months he's had a huge spurt of development....

He's sleeping =) Thanks for the ideas. I'm in a?med sized?two bedroom apt and I guess gates didn't come to mind for some reason. Though it's a good idea to try. His room is actually the living room, since MIL has the other. I did notice last night that he has some teeth coming in, which is probly adding to the erratic behavior that is kind of tipping me over the scale lately. He does the squishing his head between my legs...

Don't worry so much about developmental milestone lists. If your son can stack things, that's the important thing, i.e. having the dexterity to do that. If he's not interested in playing with those things, there is no reason to make him do it.

any pre ejaculate has sperm in it, so yes it is possible. are you breasfeeding? that is like a half form of BC. but hey my gf got preggo while breastfeeding. It could be too if you are breastfeeding your uterus is still shrinking? I know its been a few months but it could be possible, that could explain the peeing, again if you are breastfeeding and drinking a lot to keep yourself hydrated, well you will pee a lot too. I suggest taking an...

Combing Hair
Published (2009-12-03 00:00:00)
Our LO's are asserting their independence right now. I have the same battle with my DD at times. But if I don't put her hair up she can't see. What I do is let her have some choices. We have two brushes and two combs. She gets to pick one of each for me to use. I also let her pick out which hair ties to use, we have tons for her to pick from, sometimes I get lucky and they match her outfit other days, well...If she is still...

your def not alone!!and we dont spank at all or rarely do time-outs....for discipline we usually get down to his level and talk to him firm and make him fix whatever he did wrong like pick up his cars or pick up whatever he threw....and then distraction...so we were stumped on where he got that too! Jr started hitting himself about 2 months ago and its on and off like when hes really mad or when he gets embarressed.... an example of him...

I don't think that's a bad idea about letting him play by himself but IMHO I would feel a little more comfortable setting up gates or something and you being in the next room so he could still see you?? It's a bit dramatic to be locking yourself away from him if you've always played and been with him previously. ?
