Thread: single circuit MC - retrofit for dual circuit MC?

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by dubber91
Hi guys, Im running a line loc on mt 75 bug. Im running disks on the front and rear (CB rear) and am having issues with my current Master cylinder. Now because this means i only need to run 2 outlets off the MC, can i use the single circuit MC rather than going for the more expensive dual circuit MC? Cheers Steve

I think you will find your car requires a dual circuit master cylinder under construction and use regulations so fitting a single circuit would probably invalidate your insurance apart from loosing the safety of a split circuit. having entered a crossroads at speed due to a hydraulic failure on late braking many years ago I would never go back to single circuit.

OK. But is it physically possible? Im in essence running just front/back braking anyway.....

No. of outlets doesnt matter you would be running all the brakes off one circuit, if you had a leak :- no brakes. With duel you would use one for the front and one for the back.If the same situation occurs you would still have some brakes. Go for duel, you know it makes sense!

I think bug duel circuit splits, front only or back only (one pipe to rear breaks) therefore a front brake leak on a duel circuit is just the same an on a single circuit, relying on the back brakes is no better than using the hand brake ...scary

Better than no brakes!

ok, whats the difference between LHD and RHD dual circuit cylinder then?

Price and I think the outlet holes are on the opposite sides.
