Could you estimate the height of the shrub? Compare to Euonymus europaeus forma albus Here is a link that might be useful: image

Looks like the fruit of Euonymus 'Manhattan'. FWIW, E. europaeus is a deciduous species and would be unlikely to have much lush, green foliage remaining at this time of year.

thanks both of you, but I think carol got it...the flowers pretty much convinced me.... I'll pass it on to my friend, too!... so nice to have you all to come to for help!...

I have to say I think gardengal has a point. Those leaves look too leathery and evergreen for E europaeus. They turn bright red in Autumn and are pretty much all down by now over here.

The 'flowers' are really seed pods :-) Flowers on euonymus appear in late spring/early summer. Here's a photo of a 'Manhattan' seed pod just beginning to pop. Note the leathery dark green leaves still present on this evergreen species that would not be present on E. europaeus.

thanks, gardengal!....I'll have to check with the friend who sent us on this hunt and see whether the photo is a current pic or what.... I only know that my other Euonymus varieties are not yet losing leaves, like the burning bushes around here are not even all turned yet... we may be slower to drop than those of you in the NW... but just knowing it's a Euonymus will be pointing us in the right ...

Yes I just took this branch Saturday & the shrub is full of green leaves. I would love to grow one from this shrub as a memorial to the house that burned. I would call it Euonymus "Dunham" after the lady that used to live there.

Looks like wintercreeper (E. fortunei) to me.

Leaves(not toothed enough) and habit(too sparse) don't look right to me bboy. Here is a link that might be useful: E fortunei
