I'm starting to look at a possible relocation to Finland in Hamina for the year 2011 (yeah, still a bit of time ahead but you better prepare for this ...) I'm a Belgian citizen (inside Schengen space) and I will be relocating with a work contract, probably for a minimum of 3 years. My first concern is ...

Hamina is a a very small place, consider moving to for example Kotka and commute from there.

http://www.kotka.fi/in_english as said, it is very easy commuting, i know somebody who has been doing it for several years. Talking about high traffic on the highways, that is a Finnish perspective. usually, the roads are practically deserted, you don't expect to see more than two vehicles the same time, so if there are like four trucks in tow, that is a lot of traffic in Finland.
