Thread: popping on trailing throttle

Started 1 month, 4 weeks ago by dave-g
Remove all Advertisements My bike has the jd kit, restrictor removed from pipe and it runs great, till I go about 40-45 miles. Then it seems to lean out- popping on trailing throttle and stalling if I chop the throttle. If I check the tank I can see gas- I put it on reserve- same thing. If it stalls I have to wait 30 seconds before it will start....

Has it been totally de-smogged? Where does the tank vent go? To catch can or frame? Make sure there is no check valve on tank vent hose and remove the check ball from the gas cap. Tank must vent freely in both directions. Make sure carb. vents are clear. It could even be an electrical issue.

I would check fuel flow cuz that is a known issue with the cap for instaNCE. Im not up on the smog stuff

Tank vent MUST flow in and out, no check valves, no black ball inside the cap! Vent hose must go into the frame (so overflow does not drool on the exhaust) not down to the distibution box below the engine as EXC's have since 07. If you have the distibution box must take the drain screw out or toss the system. If you had that need to plug the hole in the right side of the cylinder head just ...

I just noticed this on my 09 EXC 530 after I put a one-way vent in the gas cap. I will be putting the hose back to the frame vent without a one way valve. Mine has been totally de-smogged and the exhaust opened up as well as the JD jet kit.

Gotta plug the hose that goes to the cyllinder head, just forward of the right side of the carb! When it is plugged gotta have a #42 pilot jet

Well when I went to pull the tank, I pulled the fuel line, and opened the gas valve, the gas just dripped out, Yes there was gas in the tank- I pulled the valve and blew it out with air and carb cleaner. I did get some junk out. Put it back together, now I had flow. I guess with the tank full it put more pressure on the valve to push the fuel through. Thanks for everyones input. And the ...
