Didja look for a Mosin at Big 5 Sporting Goods? The 91/30's were just on sale for $99.99, an M44 carbine would be a nice choice too, shorter and easier to tote around. Have to shoot those with the bayonet extended though, or it throws the aim off. But a 91/30 will do nicely. Just don't use milsurp ammo to hunt with, use commercial softpoints.
