ok, I dont know what to do, no matter what I choose, I will be making a 50/50 gamble with Mistys life, and I have to make a descion soon. ok here is the deal:
the mammery lump is a Tumor, and it is now showing every sign of being a very aggressive form of cancer. there are only 3 tests I have the option of, a cytology..which would cost $90 and only has a slight possability of telling me ...
I dont know what I would do in that position.
Is there the option of removing it, testing it to see how aggressive it is, and then trying some form of radiation to try and tackle anything remaining?
I dont know if I would have the will power to just leave it, wondering day to day if it was killing her more and more. Sorry I cant be of more help.
Priska had a mammary mass removed,at the same age!.
I would operate her and go from there, wouldn't bother with the chest x-ray cos won't tell you much!.
Yr dog is still young and can, still, have some good yrs,in front of her!.
Have it analysed and then, decide if chemio is worth the shot!.
If it turns out to be aggressive, then, you know you did everything you could and won't 2nd guess,yr ...
ok I posted this at work, so I will explian a bit more why I have HUGE doubts about removing it. ok the aggressive cancer it shows signs of being is inflammatory carcinoma..which would explian why the vet though it might be an infection and why a tumer that large showed up quite litterally overnight immedielty after having undergone the stress of surgery. if it is inflammatory as the evidence ...
Cant they go around it? I know (from experience with my mother), then when people have cancer removed (Im talking skin cancer, thats the only type I have had any experience with, so forgive me if Im wrong) but a section of tissue surrounding the mass is also removed as to not aggrivate the cancer itself.
I honestly have no idea... It was just a thought I had, as a possible option.
they do cut around it, yes, but they would be cutting around the lump, and since inflamitory spreads so fast, that it is most likley not confined to that lump anymore. I dunno, its just that I dont want to risk killing her, and then finding out after the fact that I just killed my dog. I think what I am gonna do is make an appointment with my vet(it was an emergancy walk in that I went to before...
I dont mean to sound like I have already decided lol, I havent, its just that I am not convinced removing it would be a good idea. the thing is, no matter what I choose to do, I am going to doubt myself. like I said, I think I iwll take her to my own vet, see what she says, she is not the type that is going to push and standard ruotine on me for the general public, she knows that when we take a ...

I would recommend doing a "MET" check -- the radiographs of the chest. Check to see if cancer has spread to the lungs. If so, then you don't pursue surgery or treatment of any kind. Then, if the lungs are clear. I'd have it removed. As for submitting the mass for histopathology.. it's really a matter of how curious you are and how indispensable funds are. If you have extra cash, don't mind spending it.....
If she were my dog I would leave the tumor alone do the best I could to manage with diet and other holistic treatments. But above all I would just live it up with her and enjoy every day I had left with her.
I really am sorry that poor Misty is going through this. You know how much I adore the girl. I hope that your vet can give you a better idea of what is going on and maybe help you plan out what to do next.
