Thread: low ck (creatine kinase)

does anyone know what a low ck means for our mito kids? i think i've heard of mito kids on creatine replacement?

I *think* it has to do with muscle wasting (not sure, though). Ali does take creatine monohydrate twice a day. We use Cytotine.

yeah, i think it has something to do with muscle wasting; but the docs aren't saying anything about it here. we checked it to see if it was high to see if she was breaking down muscle (she is breaking down red blood cells). but since it is abnormal but not abnormal in the way they were looking for, they aren't doing anything about it.

Hi Amber, Have seriously had Melanie in my prayers and am so sorry you all have had such a rough time lately (understatement of the century!!). FWIW, after getting sick in 01 and having high CK's due to muscle breakdown, my CK's have been low ever since. Only theory I've heard is that I "burnt them out" when they were high for so long, but I don't really know the real reason. It sounds ...

I don't know the reason...but Alex's ck is always low. Dr. K says it is something she sees a lot in her mito patients.
