Thread: lost ram space - Operating systems and software - HP Support Forum

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by shankris
I have XP and got a major virus. I ended up doing a system restore. When I did this my RAM went from 512MB to only 504MB. How can I get the lost MB back?

Shankris, I believe that the memory is being shared with the system's Integrated Video'.  What program are you using to get the amount of memory?  You might want to try  Everest Home  to see what it says.   Right now, I am using Everest and it shows that I have 2046MB of which 958MB is used and 1088MB is free.

I am not that computer literate. What is Everest? I am sorry I am not sure what you are referring to. Please act as if I'm in kindergarten, Ha.

Shankris, I hopefully will never talk down to you, but I will do my best to help you learn.    This is a great training tool for you.   If you will click on the  words ' Everest Home ' it will open a website called 'Softpedia' and take you to a page for downloading Everest Home.  Everest Home is a program that tells you everything that you need to know about your computer.  Simply ...

Well I downloaded it. It comes back and says I am not connected to the internet which is not so. Now what? TIA

old_geekster replied 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Shankris, did it actually download to your computer?

shankris replied 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Yes then it ran a scan and told me I was not connected. I do not want to purchase this. I just want the results for the free download. Thanks again. I have to get back to work and will check here again tonight.

Shankris, the link that I provided is to the FREE copy of 'Everest Home'.  You can look under the License section to see that it says FREE.  This is the reason that I don't understand why it is telling you that you are not connected to the Internet.  I have been using it for years without any problems with the install process.  Try it again after booting to see if that makes a difference...
