I use the BD 33 gauge lancets and change it once a day. These lancets are the thinnest and it stays sharp, easily, for the day. I test 15-16 times a day. You don't need to change the lancet unless, like Stump86 said, you are prone to infections or notice a decline in performance.

You'll find that some people very rarely change their lancet. Others do it more frequently. It's really up to you, unless you are prone to infections or notice a decline in performance when you don't change it, then you really don't need to change it unless you want to.

I usually change them when I open a new vile of strips. I'm still using the free box my CDE gave me almost 3 years ago.

I change my lancets after about a half dozen stabs. Although if I get one that seems a little duller than the others, I'll use it the once and then change it. Keep in mind if I started to notice that a batch of lancets were all dull. I would give the balance of them as a gift to my brother..... lol

If you have developed a good habit if changing them- try to keep it. Otherwise, you can get about a ga-zillion punctures out of a single lancet. Occasionally changing it is still a good idea. You should ask them how often they are changing syringes next...

Quote: This is a complete surprise for me. I've been changing it everytime I take a reading, about 5 times a day. Elsinore, there’s nothing wrong with this – as usual it’s a case of YMMV and if you prefer to change the lancet every time, then that’s what you should do But some medical people will tell you it’s essential to change the lancet every time, and it isn’t, if you...

Thank goodness we all have that great gift called "choice" which gives us all the ability to choose for ourselves and not have someone dictate to us.
