my rear sprocket is quite worn ('80 kz550 ltd) so I'm looking at replacing both front and rear sprockets and my chain while I'm at it..... here's a link for some front sprockets Sunstar Front Alloy Sprocket at BikeBandit.com how do I know which sprocket is best?? obviously i can get the one which matches my existing sprocket (i haven't looked at the front one yet) but is there ...

I've seen a lot of people recommend changing the stock 630 chain and sprockets for the smaller and lighter 530 chain. The sprockets and chains are slightly less expensive, plus they are lighter which equates to faster acceleration. The 530 chain is used on most crotch rockets now so it has plenty of strength. Z1Enterprises.com has a chain conversion section & may have what you need. Look in the lower right corner of their home page in the Reference Info section.

I'm confused here, at least one post talks about converting to 530 from 630, and other posts mention conversion charts. Stock chain according to the parts diagrams at kawasaki.com: 92057-1050 CHAIN,530X100 SH-O Stock rear sprocket according to kawasaki.com 42041-1054 SPROCKET,REAR,38T Stock front sprocket according to kawasaki.com 13144-1016 ...

on that website i only see rear sprockets for my bike (kz550 C 1980 model) but not front sprockets and I only see a chain that has to be riveted (with an 80$ tool i don't own) or a "split link" style that i'm assuming does not require a special tool because the site disclaimer says the chain manufacters prefer a riveted installation i was hoping to make sense of the info on bike bandit, ...

The kawasaki.com parts diagrams can be confusing, I just gave a lot of experience with them. The front sprocket is listed on the transmission page, while the rear sprocket and chain are listed together with the rear hub. You can use an endless chain (if you can find one), or a rivet or clip type master link. I prefer the clip type master link personally. 100 links is 100 links, no matter...

The kawasaki.com parts diagrams can be confusing, I just gave a lot of experience with them.
