Thread: Phenom II x4 b50

Started 3 months ago by Digideath
Hi there. Before I start this... Yes, I am insane. First the background story. I unlocked my phenom II x2 550 be just over a month ago. I've been running it stable as a quad core ever since, although I've had to be a little inventive with the board I'm using ( cheap nasty junk... grrr ). To get the odvious questions out the road first, the cpu has been TOTALY stable through every ...

Hmm.....very interesting!!! I have a 550 in another comp oc'ed at 3.7GHz via the CPU multiplier, but no unlocked cores. My official 550 specification data sheet states the max. Vcore voltage for the 550 is 1.425v (not 1.45v). You can probably run at 1.45v on an everday basis, but I wouldn't push it any higher. I read somewhere that the 940 (Phenom II) can take NB voltage up to 1.50v. But ...

Ok, I have 3.6 stable through multiplier alone. Didn't need any extra vcore either. I usualy give these clocks a 24 hr test in prime95 using small fft's and round off checking. In this case, I only got 16 hours, not due to instability or errors though. Windows updates started trying to force a reboot. Had to cave in and oblige in the end. Ok, I've hit a wall @3.7 though. Knew I ...

Youshould stik with 3.6 if it's stabile at standard voltage. What temperature do you get at full load with 3.6GHz ?

Cool so whats your chip stepping?

Youshould stik with 3.6 if it's stabile at standard voltage. I'm going to. Thats about what I wanted for every day use. Just want to see what the ceiling is on it first. What temperature do you get at full load with 3.6GHz ? I saw a max of 47 degrees centigrade but thats with the most powerfull air cooler I could get at the time. A thors hammer with 2 120mm fitting (140mm fan )...

I'll put this in another light. This is my experiance of one brand vs the other. I've had several asus boards over the years, all running AMD. Every one opperated excellent. I never had a failure on one either. I just keep activley upgrading. For once I actualy broke the trend and bought a gigabyte. Sure the board I got is vfast and has loads of spec and clocking options. It even unlocked my...

I've had a few ASUS boards in the past, value sucks, Gigabyte makes some very stable boards in my opinion, far more stable experience then I ha with my ASUS boards. Dimmys right, you pay out the ying-yang for an asus, and their support is horrible!!!! I don't think you'll be disappointed with the gigabyte, but there are other brands as well, I've become a fast friend of foxconn lately, ...

like I said, stick with a Athlon II or Turion x2 or Turion II x2 CPU 2 Ghz or faster. At least 2 GB of ram 4 GB ideal. DDR 2 667 or faster. The ones you linked are gutless wonders and my netbook would be faster then them lol.

Hi jc good read there brother . Hi Nemesischild . Everything I run Nemesis with higher NB frequencies does better for me , I see in that article jc posted that 2600Mhz for the dude shows better performance then 2800Mhz . For me with the all around over clocks I run the higher I can run my NB the better performance I get out of my rig . That is what is so much fun about over clocking , we become our own scientist . Like this dude in the article...

Also a much newer architecture, even if it were TWO cores, it would still wipe the floor with the old 4800+. the 620, no doubt.

Nice overclock, especially with your memory. You really don't need your NB that high, 2400-2600MHz is the sweet spot.

I need to try to isolate the issue...bad Cpu? bad stick of RAM? possibly a bad Mobo? I bought them all from Newegg....at the same time. I will have to just redo this system from the ground up I'm afraid. wow...

I have to say I always liked how things looked on screen with Ati cards in the past. But it ended up being the same problem all the time no matter which card I tried, the drivers were garbage and they never got them right, back when I owned Ati cards. I got tired of it and made the switch to nvidia, even though they were more expensive.
