Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by muddslinger
What is the thinnest compressed thickness head gasket you can get for these engines or isn't there any difference?

Are the front brakes on the Swift GT 1.3 DOHC the same as the front brakes on a 1989 Sprint Turbo? I have a unused sets from the Sprint.

How much oil should I put in this engine? My guess is 3L, but is there an exact manufacture recommendation?

My 1989 SSGT factory service manual says 3.6 liters. 5w30 anywhere where you will experience below 0 celsius, and 10w30 otherwise.

Cruising down a road I noticed my temp gauge go up, around high, I press my fan switch and fan goes on, a few minutes later it goes down but goes up again even higher. I pull over, wait a bit it cools down. Keep driving, goes up again. I start slowing down and the needle just drops to half, then back up again and down. When idling its at almost Hot. Coolant looks fine, headgasket's not burning ...

What you're describing sounds characteristic of a steam pocket forming. When a steam pocket forms, there's no coolant in contact with the temperature sending unit (which causes it to erroneously read as a low temperature). When you see the temp needle drop, it hasn't actually dropped in temperature, it's just stewing until it gets a sudden rush of hot coolant (which is when you see your needle ...

OK, so yesterday while gettingthe exhaust hanger rewelded tothe body, it looks like I've smoked the computer..... now there's a lot to sort out still, including putting in my new(er) column with good switch and rewiring the previous "fix". Best case is that is what fried and the ECU is fine. Worst case is it's done.... Now, the question is: What do I use to replace it? Do I go chipped Stocker...

rear wheel bearings

Mind came as a complete hub as mentioned as those bearings you have does not look correct. Fitting the hub required removing the caliper, breaking loose the nut and knocking off the old hub with a jolly big hammer. This left the inner race of the rear bearing attacthed to the stub axle. Out came the angle grinder to cut into the race and making it thin enough to wack and crack it off the stub axle. Then cleaned everything up, added a bit of...

removing the DOHC head bolts?

Internal, or external hex? Either way, it will probably be 10 mm 12 point socket. The internal may be called a Torx drive.

I was a little concerned about the exhaust rocker strength in the swift cast aluminum part as it's under a lot of extra load when opening against the force of a boosted engine....then with the steel G16 rockers extra weight, i thought a bit of extra spring would be a logical thing to do, as well as a bit more Intake spring to compensate for the pressure on the port side of the valve of the boosted engine. ...so after your point is...

Have you worked out which function on the Universal Pulse Processor is which? I think that I've worked out the setup but I need to trace out the circuitry.
