i honestly don't know if it was a one time thing or what. but today i went out played 9 at a local course and i was basicly by myself as its getting nice adn cold here in central new york. but on the last hole i took 4 balls all the same type of ball two of one number and two of another. so i hit the first two at the fastest swing speed where i coudl still keep it stright and the 2nd two at about...
Most likely the two that "felt" slower were actually better timed and as a result had a higher club head speed though you weren't trying as hard...golf is a funny game...
norm; you might be surprised to find that a more relaxed, easy swing can be
in fact FASTER than a hard, kill the ball swing. Don't assume your first
two hard swings were in fact faster than the last two relaxed swings. Get
on a launch monitor some time and try it again, and find out for a FACT
which swing is faster.

Every single time I've tried to swing harder and/or "kill it", I've come up short.
When I relax and just concentrate on making solid contact then the ball goes a LOT farther and straighter. Let the club do the work is how I look at it.
thanks for the input guys or gals or both hehe. i'm still learning the game
and everyday i swear i learn a ton about golf. and i try to find tips and
advice where i can and think about it all the way to the course adn then i
try to get it out of my mind and just play and learn MY game. you guys know
what i'm talking about there i bet.
I do a lot of my practice (especially this time of year, so pretty much every week day) at an indoor facility that gives me a video of every shot I hit, as well as relavent data like club head speed, ball speed and etc. on every shot, so I should know, and way more often than not a more "relaxed" swing will yield higher club head speed through impact. This happens because when you try to swing ...
I've always been told, let the club do the work. With my old Hogan Radials, I found that only went so far - sometimes I had to swing hard to get the desired result. With my recently obtained Big Bertha '06's, however, it seems to be just the opposite. Controlled swings go further than muscling up, at least so far. I suspect that's a function of a game improvement iron's design.
One thing...
yeah i have been noticeing that over the last few weeks and getting more
swings with my new driver (nike sumo sq 5000) that i'm starting to swing
harder, not kill the ball, as i'm getting better with my swing. i've been
getting more and more consistent with distence and more importently my
slice is getting smaller and smaller thankfully now its more of a hard
push.
