1) I'm surprised nobody has every really done Metropolis. There's the anime from a few years ago (which is one of those ultra-rare animes I don't hate), but it's more based on a manga which was inspired loosely by the Lang film. I'd like to see a new version of this film in the right hands.
2) I know the diehards would flip out, but I thought they should have done 2001 in 2001, like they ...
With current technology, they could actually make the end from the book and make it look good. As much as I love the original film, I'd love to see a newer non-Kubrick version. You mean the ending to the book that was written after Kubrick and Clarke's screenplay and the film itself were completed?

I don't know the exact timeline, but I believe he was working on the book at the same time as the movie was being filmed, which is why there are some differences, like Saturn instead of Jupiter. Better they just choose from the thousands of excellent written sci-fi stories and faithfully bring them to the screen! That would be something, but I ain't holding my breath!

Yeah, I'm one of those people who cringe every time someone suggests remaking a 50's sci-fi or horror movie because they always want to improve on Forbidden Planet, The Incredible Shrinking Man and The Thing From Another World.
