Pat The coast does have malarial mosquitos and they're present in theory all year round. You need to take malaria tablets. But March is about the least mossie-friendly month of the year. It's right at the end of the dry season and there's every chance you could spend a couple of weeks on the coast at that time and not see or hear one, let alone get a bite. But then somebody ...

I always use Somak, for 14 yesrs now. Excellent company and they also have offices in UK if problems are encountered. Never happened to me yet though. In fct I have booked yet another safari with them here in Mombasa . Weather is is very hot, ensure really thin cool clothing.

Hi all, another newbie to Kenya . forgive me if I get this wrong but when you say to go with operators, do you mean not the likes of Julious and Freddie who come up here on trip advise quite frequently? carol

I mean whoever you go with check they are operators and not merely agents, that they have their own vehicles and staff and are KATO-affiliated. Small companies can be very good, and personal recommendation is often the best way of finding out, but always double-check the details before putting down any money. A good company will never make you feel you're being a nuisance. ...

oh dear, oh dear, oh dear......well I hate to be the one to tell you this but there is one very nasty bug that is in Kenya all year round, where ever you are, and nothing can stop it getting you :O( 99.9% of people get bitten while they are there and it gives you this lifetime afliction that you can not get rid of. Its called Kenyanitus, you will get bitten on your first trip there ...

Hi. Justa quick reply to your Q, re mossies. I travelled to Kenya in March this year. I am normally eaten alive by mossies wherever i travel. Twice needing visits to doctors for injections to relieve the pain/!!!.....I got a couple of small bites at the end of the holiday because i had stopped putting on repellant....hardly any mossies about so relapsed.. I would not worry about this. Although we did have yellow fever injections beforehand...
