previously used dreamweaver 8 on this same computer with no major headaches. upgraded to dreamweaver cs4, and I get crashes all the time. no pattern to the crashes. sometimes, adding a new folder to the site will cause it to crash (but not always). sometimes trying to navigate the remote site will cause dreamweaver cs4 to crash. sometimes looking at the screen will cause it to ...
Yes, all the time. In fact, 43 crashes between 21st May - 08th June including 4 this morning. Always seems to happen when navigating around the file tree when you have a remote site setup. I've tried this on XP SP3 and Vista SP1 and SP2. Can't find anything about this. Either no one is using CS4 or we have a unique situation going on. IMO DW is just buggy. The only reason I wanted to ...
If Dreamweaver is behaving in an odd way, it frequently means you have a corrupt personal configuration folder. Close Dreamweaver, locate the personal configuration folder, and rename it. When you restart Dreamweaver, it should create a new configuration folder with all the program defaults. For details of how to find the configuration folder, see this page in the Dreamweaver FAQ . ...
Nadia-P I have already tried removing my configuration folder. I am well versed in doing so as it was necessary to rectify many of the bugs in CS3! For your information, I've also re-formatted my laptop and installed XP SP2, then re-formatted and installed Vista SP1 then re-formatted and installed Vista SP2. The problem still remains. I have even tried a different laptop. I'm running...
Jamie, I can undersand your frustration - I have my own little issue with CS4 which causes me constant headaches, but no-where near the problems that you are having. Mine relates to locked files, not constant crashing. Sorry if I pointed you to tech notes that you've tried before, but in most cases the configuration folder is generally the culprit (or the windata file) so that's where...
Hi Nadia-P I haven't contacted them as yet, but I will. I expect they'll want to know everything about the machine and the software running on it and at the moment I don't have time to relay all this information to them. Thanks for your help, Regards Jamie
Nadia-P I've been rattling around the Adobe website for the last 10 minutes attempting to open a support case for this issue. When I try to select my product, it isn't listed. There are only 7 products shown, none of which I own or am interested in. This product was purchased by the company I work for, not me. How can I open a support case?? Thanks Jamie....
Jamie, have you looked here: http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/contact.html Dreamweaver is listed in the dropdown, and at the bottom of the page are the various means of contacting support. That's about the only way I know of contacting them.
Nadia-P The Dreamweaver Contact Support page takes me to the usual customer portal area. I get as far as logging in to my account to open a ticket but DW isn't listed as a product in the drop down list. I assume I need to register the serial number on my account or own a support program or something perhaps? Thanks for your help. Jamie...
thank you, adobe, for not fixing CS4. i love the crashes. there is a buddhist calm that overwhelms me when dreamweaver stops responding to my clicks and gracelessly crashes. looking forward to CS5, 6, 7, and so on - all of which i'll be sure to read about while using my Zend Studio.
Hi yabbox Welcome the the "dreamweaver cs4 crashes constantly" club. Your welcome pack will be sent shortly... All I can say is, I have exactly the same issues as you: Periodically interacting with the server long after any file activity means you can't do anything useful/buttons greyed out Crashes when using the file tree when a remote site is setup Internet access/FTP access via other...
I love that logo!! I'm a knitter and when I saw it I thought it was a haywire post from one of the knitting forums I belong to. I had a good week but Friday it crashed about 5 times. So annoying. I've been trying to remember to slow down when I'm moving through the directory tree because it only seems to crash when I get to flying around opening and closing folders and files. Here's an...
Welcome to the club! I do hope you enjoy our company as we all sit here waiting for Adobe to make a presence in this forum. Actually, we've all given up hope on Adobe addressing these issues, or even addressing us in any way shape or form. We all know that the ftp engine in Dreamweaver sucks beyond all belief. I continue to have crashes on a daily basis. In fact, every single time I use Dreamweaver it crashes. I'v figured...
I really don't think it has anything todo with antivirus, it's purely coincidence, and the fact that ALL windows users should have AV makes it an easy tagget for blame. If it's crashing on Macs to then it sort of rules AV out. I think it's more down the the underlying code (which is shared on macs and pcs). It seems to have very poor memory management and bad window handling. When it was Macromedia it was even more...
One good non-Adobe resource is Ray Camden ray@camdenfamily.com . He's very knowledgeable about CF, and has some inside contacts at Adobe, I suspect. (Although Adobe did announce this week they are cutting 10% of their world-wide staff.) In my case, DW has been working just fine since I renamed the config file (so a new one was created). ...Rick...
I think I should be more specific about my crashes... DW simply quits on me... no warning... no error messages... no send error report to Microsoft... nothing... it simply leaves me looking at my desktop as if the program had never been open.
JamieBurchel - "I've tried this on XP SP3 and Vista SP1 and SP2. Can't find anything about this. Either no one is using CS4 or we have a unique situation going on." If it's unique, then it wouldn't be a bug as CS4 is in widespread use. Common sense seems to point to something about your computer. People are taking time out to try and help you, and you're just flat out rude. If you've got...

Jamie, my comments were directed towards bellevuefineart. Working on files solely on a server, it seems to me, would cause a lot of problems, for the reasons he mentioned (timeouts). I can see where that would crash DW. You have other issues going on. I can certainly sympathize...I have my own share of issues trying to build a website in DW CS4...I don't have a lot of crashes, but many other problems, like DW generating wrong...

my Mac, it loaded this strange font as seen in the photo attached. Anyone
