For all you fellow anime fans out there who don't understand japanese.
with me, I'm a major anime fan, it depends on the mood I'm in. When I'm lazy and want to be able to fully focus on the action on screen and savour the artwork etc. I watch an anime dubbed in english, as i won't have to be distracted by reading what the characters say.
However, when I really want to know the story well in...
If both options are available I'll watch it in Japanese with subtitles, I won't avoid a series that I can only find in English though... I recently watched School Rumble on Funimation's YouTube channel and I enjoyed that even though only the dub was available
I'm glad that dubs are made as I'm sure far less anime would be available on DVD if it was sub-only as the market would be quite a ...
In general, if I can get both I prefer the subtitles. Translations are usually better and sometimes the voices for English dubbings can be really poorly picked. I have no problems focusing on both action and subtitles at the same time either. The only advantage to English audio is that when necessary I can click away or look at something else on the computer and still tell what's going on by the ...
I completely agree with your post nos st racer, I also enjoy both dubbed and subbed versions of anime. While many dubbed versions are completely awful, this is usually apparent right away, upon watching an episode or two. I agree, a very well done dub, can make for a very enjoyable experience. If I really enjoy the show dubbed, I watch it again subbed, to get the full effect. I believe that if ...
Whichever sounds the best to me. There are several dubs I enjoy, but if a dub is doesn't do a good enough job I'll go subbed.
It's all a matter of taste, my friend
God speed, my friend. Slip the surly bonds of Earth. And might I add, DUDE!
Dub lol, the reading distracts me and I end up concentrating how what they are saying dispite the fact that I havent got what they are saying

DUBs. When they're good I think it really improves the anime for most english speakers. With some shows like Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, DBZ, and GITS:SAC I don't watch unless it's the dubbed version.
Depends, but usually dub. I don't care all THAT much about exact translations. But if the voice acting is bad, I'll watch subbed. For live action flicks, I definitely prefer subtitles. Some good dubs: DB/DBZ Kenshin Cowboy Bebop Yu Yu Hakusho Gundam Wing Bleach Ghost in a Shell I can't stand the dubs for Full Metal Alchemist or Inyuasha. Reality has a well-known liberal bias - Colbert
Depends on two factors. If the dub is good and what time of day it is. As a rule i prefer subs but if its after work or in the evening then i'l be too tired to read the tiny writing at the bottom of the screen and also keep up with the animation at the same time. "If i believed in reincarnation, i'd kill myself tonight!"
if the dub is good, I don't see a reason to watch with subtitles unless you just like hearing the japanses voices. For me, the subtitles distract too must away from the art. In live action movies you can tell they are dubbed and they are usually not done too well, but the anime industry has gotten to the point where the english dubs are generally pretty good, and because it animated, it doesn't matter if its not in the original...
The difference is that Japanese voice actors get advice from the original director and they perform the same scenes together and sometimes they might even adlib some lines in certain parts.
