Thread: do e30 and e21 starters match?

Started 3 weeks, 1 day ago by pjksutherland
have done a search through realoem which suggests the same starter was used for E21 and E30. No E21 starters on ebay but plenty of E30s. However none of the sellers list the part number so I can't check it will be the part I need. This link suggests the E30 had 2 different starters depending on age: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&it em=130340574756&...

I used the starter off a 1989 325i auto on my 1982 323i manual flywheel and box with no dramas AND its about half the size and half the weight! Plug solenoid in to harness with the lower tab.

For m10's you need a e34 m30 one or a s14 one to save wieght Jason

e34 m30? or can it be e28? im guessing e28 is still the old stuff? hate to think how much and s14 starter motor will cost!

E34 and it the same starter as the s14 Jason

the sound of an e24 auto 3.5 m30 engine sounds awesome, like a metal zingy sound, really distinctive starter sound!

How do you notice something like that!! I had an e30 (325i) until just 8 weeks ago but I'd be buggered if I can remember what the starter sounds like - I do remember the bark from the exhaust when I floored it though, that was nice!
