Thread: cologne v6 heads

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by Henry Piper
Hello Can anyone tell me how difficult/easy it is to remove the cylinder heads from a 2.8 cologne, I thinkI have a blown head gasket, (at least I am hoping thats what it is rather than anything more serious !!) For the last few weeks I have been losing water whenever I drive the car, never a great deal, at most after a longish drive about a pint, but have not been able to find a leak and the ...

Hi Henry as easy as any over head valve engine, would recommend doing both heads as youve got it stripped though.Just make sure when you take gaskets off you take note off which one came from which side as I have found that it can make a difference as gaskets denote how water flows round engine, also make sure valve gaps are not too tight as when engine gets hot valve gaps will get tighter and can...

Hi Henry Changing the head gaskets is relatively easy. I can confirm that the head gaskets ARE different from each other. If you need any help email me and we can get it sorted. Stu.

Are the head bolts normal bolts/studs, or are they Torx bolts? I can borrow a torque wrench if there standard bolts, but if they are torx bolts I could be stuffed without the appropriate tool,!! I will be starting work on it fairly soon and if I get any...

Hi Henry The engine I took the heads off a few months ago, had normal bolts, I guess it depends on the age of it, but my Haynes manual doesn't mention Torx or stretch. If it is Torx then I have a set you can borrow. Stu.

Thanks everyone for the advice, From speaking to various people with cologne engines in their cars, it seems that some have normal hex bolts, and some Torx bolts and it doesnt seem to be relative to engine age which they come with!!. Anyway, I now have access to a set of torx bolts and a set of hex head bolts, plus a torque wrench with a torx bit set, so whatever I find when I start work I ...

One point we all seem to have overlooked If you look between the rocker cover and the exhaust manifold you will see the 4 outer head bolts It will be obvious from these which type you have
