Thread: choosing the right cable?

Started 2 months, 1 week ago by oh hai!
Anybody know the difference between having a HDMI male/male cable and a male/female cable? Hooking up a PS3 or DVD player to a tv, wich connection type is needed? i am also buying a 6FT SVGA Super VGA M/M Monitor Cable w/ ferrites (Gold Plated) To connect my PC to a 32 Flat screen tv. Does that one have to be male/male as well? your help would be much appreciated.

PS3 to TV should be male-male, if you have DVI on the PC videocard you could get DVI to HDMI cable and plug PC into TV's HDMI port. The VGA port on the TV may only accept certain resolutions, the HDMI works better. If you go with VGA it's basically just same ends as a monitor cable.

(The difference between male/male and male/female cables is that male/male will have both ends of the cable with the connector on the right, and a male/female cable will have a male connector one one end and a female connector on the other end - essentially, a male/female HDMI ...

thanks guys for all the info :) I almost sent back the HDMI cable that i got because i was only getting audio but no video. Thankfully a little research around the PS3 settings fixed it. Since the PS3 uses a different connection type by default. Just had to switch it to HDMI 720 to get the Video to work. Also bought a super VGA cable to use my TV screen as a pc monitor, Bioshock never looked ...
