Thread: changed engine mountings, still vibration is there!
Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by Haroundb
Last month I have changed my engine mountings with new aftermarket ones (OEM is very expensive, and the Aftermarket ones are very good quality). Still I do feel strong vibration in the steering wheel and in my chair while in (N) or (P). What could be the reason? Is there any other parts which will contribute to this vibration to be changed so to eliminate the vibration totally (my goal) from my ...
i had the same problem with my car...
it was the sub frame mountings that were worn.... i changed the engine and transmission mounts prior but to no avail....
check for crack or signs of broken rubber support (engine, transmission, body support) before you play the game hit and miss. Changing the all supports is also a healthy thing to do but if it is not broken then that would be a waste of time effort and money.
I think you might look at WHY your engine is vibrating? In P or N It would
sugest a different problem..do you see the engine move if you look at it in
P.. and if you put it in N (with foot brake on) when you put your hand on
it can you feel it, is it only at low revs..I wonder if you have ignition
problem. Crank-cam sensor?

I have same or very similar problem: in D the idle is almost smooth (my criterion for smoothness is very strict) and in N and P, respectively, significantly less. However, there is no vibrations at steering wheel and there is no rithmical shivering of the engine. The shivering occurrs only occasionaly, let's say in intervals from 2 to 10 seconds, and it is barely noticeable.

What is the support you are talking about? I don't really get you 'cool'. Can you please elaborate more on this?
And Tim, I have changed the gear mounting twice, still same problem.

Considering that we are talking about in both cases early W140's with the older transmission could it be a vacuum line leak? That would perhaps give a symptom such as this. My understanding of the engine mounts being shot is that with the car in "D" stopped at a light for example you should feel the vibration not only in "P" or "N".

i had a similar issue for about 6 months until my check engine light came on, not having the access to the ODB reader i replaced the spark plugs, that weren't bad at all, and I also replaced all ignition coils because i had some laying around here (i purchased them cheaply in advance on huge sale back in the days), i know ignition coils go weak every 100K (on all my cars), so on my s500 at 105K, after replacing all plugs and all coils the...
