Thread: block heater?

Started 1 month ago by tugboater@mac.com
When I plug the truck in it trips the breaker...narrowed it down to the heater right above the oil filter. It appears to be a freeze plug style, but in a strange spot. What am I looking at here? Thinking I'm going to just put a new heater from napa in it and see what happens. Any suggestions?

Battery Light ON. Keep burning up fusible links. HELP! Driving home the other day, my truck almost died, lights went out, etc, but kept running, got it home. Took Batteries and alt to advance auto, and everything tested good. Found my fusible link wire from the alt to the solenoid were melted. SO I replaced them, as soon as I hook up the ...

Sounds like Alt. issue. It could be a bad Alt. ground inside of it, but then I wouldn't think it would test good. I don't know, never heard of that problem. Kinda weird. __________________ 1989 F-250 4X4 C-6 7.3 IDI, 4.10 SRW, Cobra 148GTL(not quite stock) 4ft bed mounted "hick sticks" 1997 F-350 4X4 E4OD 7.3 Powerstroke, 3.55 SRW. 3"DP...

If the alternator test good and you don't blow the fuseable link until you touch the alternator wire to the battery supply I would supect that the wire has shorted out somewhere. Instead of blowing links why not get a volt ohm meeter and see if you can find where it is grounded. Those links can't be too cheap. Jim __________________...

sounds like the wire between the alt and the solenoid is internally shorted somewhere. may have to dissect the harness to find it--weirder things have happened. try hooking the wire to the solenoid, but not the alt. if its fine--means something inside the alt is haywire--and so is their tester-- __________________ 94 f250 idi turbo sc ...

check for oil in your fuel filter bowl, it's a good sign of leaky injector o-rings.

Ok Good deal guys thanks for the info. I was looking it over again this afternoon and to pull the engine would be a major chore for me right now so removing the fender wells looks like the best way to go. I would never had imagined that these exhaust manifolds had no gaskets! I would have thought some jack ass had pulled em and forgot to replace them...hahaha.....glad I posted this ...

What does Ford say about... -...

The remarkable thing to me is that Ford and the other manufactures accept these robberies as simply part of routine business practice. These shop salespeople (car salesman), people they hire to make them money, are narcissistic, pathological, parasites but they make these dealers lots of money. They will fire anybody who does less. Then they stand up in front like great citizens and they actually think they are.

Have you tried what i mentioned above? If not then try it. It would have been much easier than pulling the lift pump. it only takes a few minutes to do and would completely eliminate the tanks and their respective lines and the switching valve.

There may be unknown issues toward the glow plugs. The Gp relay could be bad. But that would just mean it wouldn't function. There is only one way to find out. Where abouts are you?

With all due respect to Midwestconnection's career as a mechanic, I've been driving a 7.3 for 11 winters in Ohio, read about a zillion posts here, and written a few myself, and have never heard about a splash of cold water c/o the water pump doing damage to the block heater... for one thing, isn't the radiator's content excluded from the block until the thermostat opens? Second, the block in the vicinity of the heater will...

nope, bad connection to your PCM, its powered 2 ways, one by the large yellow 20 amp #9 fuse and by teh small yellow #22 fuse, both under the hood, first disconnect your fuel heater , then check both fuses adn if you have a chip, remove it. If it doesn't stall for a few days, replace the chip and run it, if good then plug the fuel heater back in. If nothign works , then I would guess corrosion on the CPS wiring, real ***** to find that...

Fuel coming from transmission cover

Is fuel puddling in the valley under the pump or fuel bowl? Aside from the pump and hoses, there are lots of potential leakers left! Be sure that you let folks know what year truck you have, any mods etc (easiest way is to put that in your signature block), as this helps to pinpoint things. Fuel bowl can be rotted out Fuel lid leaking Fuel heater plug joint leaking Fuel restriction sensor leaking Fuel Drain leaking Fuel Pressure Regulator to...
