Thread: beach huts

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by Skyenorth
MY IMAGE(S): GENERAL INFORMATION: Title: beach huts (please move to structured critique) Year Created: Medium: Oil Surface: Canvas Dimension: 35 x 45 cm Allow digital alterations?: Yes! MY COMMENTS: An evening scene. I wanted the tonal values to be quite close but feel I have gone over board on this with the result of too much of the same colours throughout....

I know you are looking for a critique other than oo's and aa's but before it gets moved to structured... I think this piece is beautiful! I do not think you have gone too far with the colours at all, it feels like twilight before the storm very calming...I like!!

Thank you Suvi, that is a nice comment! and yes I was hoping to introduce some more variety of colours into the painting. I guess I will have to leave it and accept it as it is. I am coming to the opinion that some paintings are successful and some paintings are almost there! I do accept though that the colours at twilight would be very close together.

nicely done, foreground values are very nice, but i agree the sky's a little flat ... have you thought of getting a little purple involved? with yellows it does transition into such nice browns and might be just the little bit of punch of color your looking for. la

here is the update it is over worked, but I have found it a useful learning exercise. I must plan my painting better and not take a risk by painting away hoping it will come together. Caroline
