You probably need an RIB (radio interface box). See where the county got it. Chances are they could point you to the local shop where they got it. If it's anything like Motorola equipment, you need proprietary software and hardware to reprogram it. If you're getting it for a legitimate government/municipal emcomm use--its days are probably numbered before your unit goes digitial. There's...

as a matter of fact its an old la county unit, legal buy. and thanks mo. My forest service days are long gone and i'm trying to remember which pins you cross and what button to hold. We used to do it with our pocket knives or a penny. its either the last pins or first pins or somthing ive tried a bunch with no result. i'm gonna go peek at the bat labs site. No command box or data cables were ...

Just buy a cheap 2 meter ham radio that has been opened up for extended freqs. Will do the same freqs as the radio you are messing with, plus more!!!

LPH is an OLD radio... You don't need a RIB, but you do need a programming cable if you want to computer program it. This radio is so old it probably clocks slower than a modern computer, so you will probably need to find an old 386 or the like that will clock slow enough for the DOS program required. Sounds like you aren't trying to program it with software, though. For those that ...

its all moot at this point, got a line on a factory tech from a nice lady at 49er comms, according to her "mark or chuck" at the factory in florida are the only ones that might know what or where to look. Mark and Chuck struck out. We were on the phone for about 4 hours between yesterday and this am. I have been balls deep in that radio with them on the other end doing the same and we couldn't ...

Ham Radio Outlet in Oakland on Livingston, ask for Mark. Paying about $200 apiece for the FT60 and it'll do both UHF and VHF in the same package, also you get the Yaesu name and warranty and know they'll continue to be in business. Also a local supplier you can talk to if you have a problem. 12 volt drop in charger is available for it for about $80. The eBay radio looks like a cheap knockoff to me. I am willing to bet the quality of...
