I had a rear molar out not so long ago and had a swollen face for a day or two, despite a truly painless and fast extraction. I was gobsmacked at how good that dentist was! In relation to antibiotics, I had an abcess trapped in behind a front tooth a year or two ago. It was unresponsive to the first bout of antibiotics I had, and just kept getting bigger and bigger until it burst into my ...

Yes, the swelling is common. An ice pack helps. sweilling should start to go down after 3 days or so.

It's really common to get swelling so I wouldn't worry too much about that. I looked like a chipmunk when I had mine out. It seems you get more swelling from wisdom teeth for some reason. You should really take those antibiotics if your doctor told you to. Did they tell you how long you should take them for after the pulling? Those wisdom tooth holes can get some really unpleasant infections ...

swelling is not always an occurance after an extraction. if you cut soft tissue and bone then yes there is some swelling. if the extraction goes smoothly then i do not expect a lot of swelling but watch out is the site had been recently infected- or is still being treated for an infection. this type of abscess can move very fast and have you end up in the hospital, have the extracting ...

I looked like Marlon Brando in the Godfather for a couple of days after my wisdom tooth extraction, and I had no infection. If you have recently had an abscess though, as above, keep taking the antibiotics for as long as they tell you to. Chances are the bacteria from that abscess are still lurking in your mouth, and can you imagine if they get into the hole from the extraction? I'm surprised you...

Im going to sound like your mother and growl at you. If the Dr has prescribed antibiotics - take them. Re reading a few back posts I noticed you have been having problems with your teeth and not made looking after your dental health a priority - possibly part of the problem as to why you are having worse problems now than if it had been a straight forward extraction. Right Mathilda - off...

Yeah you got to keep taking them. I'm told that stopping half way through a course means that the infection is harder to treat if it returns. At the moment I have an infection in my front two upper teeth. Its dormant but it creates a ball of puss in the gum. It keeps bursting (about once a day) its horrible. Going for root canal at the end of the month and the dentist reckons there is only ...

with a chronic infection like that you may need a procedure known as an apicoectomy which is basically open the area up and perform a direct scraping of the apex of the roos and the infected material, ask your dentist about it
