I am going to circumnavigate the globe with a friend, and need advice on what to buy. The camera needs to be able to take excellent quality pictures and video in any condition. HD video capabilities, super compact and portable, and be able to take pictures quickly as they happen. Doesn't matter if it's an older model camera as long as it fulfills all these requirements.
Price range $250ish ...
Some cameras that will probably be at the high end of your price range but are very good all around are the Panasonic ZR1 (8x optical zoom), Sony DSC T90 (very small and thin but doesn't have a wide angle) and the Canon SD940IS (very small and thin, excellent build quality).
Other, less expensive possibilities are the Sony W290 and the Samsung SL820, but I don't think they have the overall ...
I'm wanting to buy something like the Panasonic ZS3 for a circumnavigation trip i'm going on after christmas, and am hoping to get it for a good price on black Friday.
What other good cameras like the ZS3 would you guys recommend for purchasing on black Friday?

The ZS3 is an excellent camera. If you want a pocketable camera with a long zoom lens and don't have a problem with its size (it's not an ultracompact) and its price (about $300) it's probably the best camera of its type on the market.

Sorry, the cheapest price I've seen online from a legitimate retailer is $277.
I've seen the Canon SD1200 IS for $179 and the Panasonic FS15 for $159. These are excellent small cameras but they don't have HD video and...

Any good black friday recommendations?
I am looking to get a good camera, with wide angle, at least 10mp, at least 4x zoom and at least 720p video capabilities... I was looking and very interested in the ZS3, but thats a bit too much for me now...
Does anyone know of anything like this being available at a discount for black friday?...
Picked one up for black friday. Pretty nifty little camera... However, could use wide angle and and farther zoom... what do you guys think about this tiny little cam? Should I return it and try to go for the Panasonic ZS3 like I wanted?
Quote: what do you guys think about this tiny little cam? Pros - great build quality, very small, very good picture quality in good light, Canon's rich color palette, Canon's "my colors" options, HD movie mode. Cons - Only 3x optical zoom, perhaps too small, not all that wide at the wide end of the lens, soft at high ISO's, purple fringing in high contrast shots.

What ever brand you choose, be aware of recharging batteries, or buying. THEFT..it's huge, cheap, gives cheap pics, and if your hiking weight/size, keep it handy, most don't start up to fast, keep your eyes open.I've been educated in places like Indonesia, Australia , Hong Kong, New Zealand .
