Well, here's the latest.....Weds after lunch, I had this pain develop in my lower left abdomin. It went away after taking a few pain pills...but returned the next morning. I took more pills, and the pain went away Thursday. Friday morning I woke up and could hardly stand up...so, I went to the ER. They did a CT scan, (no contrast due to Starbucks) and dtermined there are no stones or weird stuff...
Well, the pain is better today....on the pain scale, it's gone from an 8 to a 2! Hopefully this thing is going away on it's own! I have tried everything from suppositories/enema/miralax/mag citrate/etc. and haven't really passed a lot of stuff, but some stuff...(not to be too gross)...but I am having that pain in my lower left abdomin. It's spooky!!! From what the ER doc said, adding the iron ...
Greetings Elaine,
Constipation is AWFUL!!!!
I went through a two-week ordeal with it...and am now on colace and suppositories.
Mine is caused by a medication I'm taking... I knew it had the potential to cause problems before surgery, but I ate a lot of fresh/raw fruit and vegitables then that took care of it...but after surgery, with such a restricted diet, it got WAY out of hand!...
It's weird...because I've been going, but apparantly not enough....because stuff is stuck in there...causing abd pain! The pain on my left side is better today, but still not gone. I work for GI docs....so they want me to go for a CT w/contrast and to check my liver...but I hate to go through a bunch of tests...to find out it's constipation..it's embarassing... So, hopefully things will resolve ...
Sending you a gentle hug Elaine.
I've got through a couple of bouts of being "backed-up" and it was extremely painful. Like you, I was going but never enough.
After some serious help from Miralax, Benefiber and MOM, I am able to get things moving but it's something I need to keep on top of or I end up in trouble quickly. When things were really tough, I followed Claire's ...
Hi Elaine, constipation can certianly be painful but I'm hoping that is all that it is. I'm glad to hear the GI docs want to check it out further though.
I would really recommend taking the Carbonyl Iron, like Corrine mentioned. The iron I was taking before really constipated me too but I take the non-chewable iron from Celebrate and no problem since, even with the pain meds I'm taking right...
