Thread: Yet another allergen / new allergic reaction

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by Arfy77
So DS had an allergic reaction to the dinner I made last night.  I am THINKING it had to be the pineapple juice in the sauce...  even though it only had a tiny bit and he didn't even eat much.  The only new ingredients were white wine, pineapple juice, and honey...  What really sucks(besides the vomiting and benedryl + inhaler in the middle of the night) is that his skin prick testing is Weds, ...

Should be fine, you only need to be off the antihistimines for 3 days prior to the testing so Sun-Wed is more then enough time for the meds to get out of the system. We've even done testing after only 2 days off the meds and still got possitive results.

My DS has several sever food allergies, too.  I'm reading a very good book called 'Healing the New Childhood Epidemics Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies' by Dr. Bock.  It was recommended by someone on the Babies & Children with Skin Problems board, and it is very informative.  I mention this because there are doctors out there who have cured many kids like ours, and it might give you some ...

Wine can be cross contaminated with milk, egg and fish (used to clarify wine).  I have an article about it in my Living Without magazine.  Here is the article  www.livingwithout.com/2008/jj08drin... Angela

Is he allergic to eggs because white wine can sometimes have egg in it.

From what I understand, honey can also be cross-contaminated.  I have also heard of people reacting to the pollen *in* the honey. I'm glad he is okay.

I'd be leaning more towards egg in the wine or pollen in honey.

I agree with the PP, unless he is allergic to a related citrus.

Arfy77 replied 1 month, 1 week ago
His reaction and how he looks after EXACTLY matches my friend who has a confirmed pineapple allergy.

Arfy77 replied 1 month, 1 week ago
Pineapple isn't related to citrus at all guys...  It is the enzyme in it that is the common allergen...  not the acid.

We're back from the allergist!  I was right.  22mmx16mm pineapple prick.
