I'm thinking far forward on the dash. I live in a snowy area and if I mounted it on the roof it would be forever being it by a snow brush. I suspect that few people mount them on the dash because they don't want to see the wire. But my dash has a center console which I already have out. Plus, windshields today have much more of a slope so the view of the sky is much better.

Mounting the antenna on the dash works all right, I've done it before. But in the end, I ended up just mounting it on the roof. I also live in a snowy area, but I don't really have that concern because the antenna isn't really in the way of my brush. And the antenna wire is not visible because I embedded it within the rubber molding around the outside of the windshield. Not to say that ...

Wouldn't it still get signal through the snow? Just asking, I haven't gotten snow since I installed mine and it makes me think.

geosync replied 3 months, 1 week ago
Yea it still works through snow. I had Sirius set up in the car last winter, and had the great arctic freeze come through the NW. 15 inches of snow couldn't stop the signal from coming in loud and clear. Have to assume the same can be said for XM.

I want to be able to move it to the house and use in another car w/ an extra car kit so it's not going to be permanant. I mainly need to know if if makes sense to keep the XpressR in front where I can see it or can I mount it out of sight? Can I do all the channel switching from the radio?

OctaneFan replied 3 months, 1 week ago
If you keep the radio in the center console, that makes it very difficult to change the channel while driving. The only way you can change the channel via the cars in-dash radio is by installing a permanent tuner. But in that case, you can't take the radio with you. You might want to just mount the radio on the dash, and remove it when you leave the car. Put it in a camera case and hide ...

How about an aftermarket radio that uses the XM Direct 2 with the Passport ? That's pretty much the purpose of the Passport , to take your sub from car to home to car.

Ive had a SkyFi2 receiver with a boom box that has worked flawlessly for several years,,Just now the direct tune function has stopped working..Is there a way to fix this by rebooting the system..Say, to unplug it and plug it in again?..Thanks for any help..

TimLones replied 3 months, 1 week ago
Update: Went into the menu settings and put everything back into default mode..It fixed the problem..

I'm moving my Pioneer head unit and XM tuner box into a Matrix. Where is the best place in to put the XM box, and the antenna? What's the best way to route the wiring? Are there any good online resources specific to such an install? Thanks

> Will ask about it. They are supposed to detail it and are wanting me to leave it with them for several hours anyway. Part of the manufacturer warranty did not transfer over if it falls under the dealer warranty its $100 deductable. Partly why I was wanting to just upgrade it Was also thinking about just putting a stereo with HD radio. Even with the zune hooked up to AUX that sounds pretty good. > > Display posts from previous: All...

Driving through town I am constantly losing the signal. Any ideas? Does the antennae have to be mounted on metal?? Thanks for any help or ideas. The antenna does not have to be mounted on metal, but ideally it should be outside of the car....

97 C5 Corvette CD/AUX Question
Published (2009-10-19 10:02:00)
The best option for you is a PdAuX3W. It allows the Factory 12-disc CD Shuttle (which I believe is made by Pioneer) connected in the Corvette C5. BTW, this adapter also provides an auto switched USB port for charging devices such as GPS. Do a search for PdAuX3W on Google and it will point you to the manufacturer's site where you can order it online. You may even find one on eBay for a good price.

Explain the PIE adapter and how...
Published (2009-11-04 11:11:00)
I have the PIE interface for an aux input in my Impala and it has worked great for several years. I have the TERK interface for the XM and everything works just fine... They're basically a circuit that emulates a CD Changer or the actual factory XM receiver and makes your HU think that it's there for real. It interfaces between factory and non-factory equipment.
