Thread: XTD (Stage3) vs. ACT2100 vs. Exedy vs. others: Which to get??

Started 3 years ago by 90GSTBOOSTED
I know all these clutch kits have been discussed in different areas but I want to get a general opinion on each one of them in the same thread so some kind of comparison can be established. I want to upgrade my stock clutch which has 168k miles. I am at 18 psi with my Evo3 16g and I feel like it's really slipping. Maybe you can confirm this for me. When I floor the car, it boosts up and at ...

im not sure i would trust the ebay clutches, act is a very good and reliable clutch. as the old saying goes. you get what you pay for...

I've heard good things about Spec as well. Take a look at their pricing perhaps.

XTD are not sold on ebay only. I just used that link to show you guys what I am reffering to. It is true though that you get what you pay for. The question is, for my simple needs what exactly do I want to get?

Stage 3 = $299 at Titanmotorsports.com....Its 6-PUCK clutch with light pedal pressure, very light trust me.....Will hold 415lb ft of Torque......

I've got a Act2100 in my Dsm and it's great. I had it installed at Buschur Racing in September of 03' and it has shown no signs of wear yet. So if you ask me I wouldn't waste money on that Ebay shit like 90GSTBOOSTED said "you Get what you pay for"!

I got a XTD stage 3, and in my opinion, it is better than any ACT i've ever used, and I got it for $134.00 plus shipping. Stock-like pedal pressure. Very light.

Well the reason I was considering the XTD is the fact that it comes with the light flywheel from XTD and everything else for a little over $300. SPEC costs $300 for only the clutch kit without the flywheel. I want to put in a lighter flywheel anyways so that's why I figured if the XTD is just as good or good enough for my 300 hp application I can save the money and buy everything for $300. I will...

well..I had an XTD clutch in my Miata, it held up fine for the 10k or so miles that I put on it. Now when it comes to DSM's and boost..its your call. I would go with whats proven just to be on the safe side, but if you get the XTD, and it works out good for you, then hey thats great! Nomie

xtd is basically the same exact clutch as spec, part for part, they are pretty much identical, i have seen way more spec's come apart though,

id say give it a shot, hell i blew up 2 stage 3 specs both after about 4k miles, the first one was replaced by spec the second one i gave up on and just threw in a stock disk w/ the spec pp. Mine dropped springs like crazy, but when they worked right i loved em.

Re: XTD (Stage3) vs. ACT2100 vs. Exedy vs. others: Which to get?? I bought that Exedy stock clutch and it looks like a very nice piece. Even the TOB looked as good if not better than the OEM one. Even had the nylon sleave. Installation went flawless and came with the clutch alignment tool. I don't have it back on the road yet (I've been lazy) but I have no doubt it will function without issues. Very impressed for a $100 clutch!...

Yeah, I wasn't sure if the light flywheel was a good idea in general for a daily driver but I want to get a new one. I don't know if I should just get my stock one resurfaced or get a new one. I was told by a Mechanic that the DSM flywheels are best to be replaced with the clutch. That is probably complete crap but either way I figured if I am going to do this might as well put a brand new flywheel. Can I just put the stock on back...

Re: XTD (Stage3) vs. ACT2100 vs. Exedy vs. others: Which to get?? Cool, thanks for the update. I've been babying my GSX around, trying to make it through winter. I know it's not going to have much longer, because now I can push into it a little bit in 3rd gear, and it starts to slip... __________________ -Adam 97 GST: Urethaned 6 Bolt, ARPs, BSEK, 5031e, TiAL F38, PR o2, SBR Exhaust Manifold, Dejon 4" Intake, Pro Race ETS...

Re: XTD (Stage3) vs. ACT2100 vs. Exedy vs. others: Which to get?? I had the xtd 6puck clutch kit and it was the bigest peice of shit ever. Its the reason why i will never cheep out on a clutch again. The pads cracked and started to flake off after 8k mi.The torsion springs came loose making my car sound like shit at idle. The tob they give you with the kit started grinding after a few thousand mi. All it did was destroy my RRE flywheel and...
