Thread: Women's Studies question regarding "the right to choose"? - Yahoo! Answers

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by Indigo
My Women's Studies course is currently on the topic of reproductive rights. I would like to get opinions for my paper about the matter. My main focuses are about aid to other countries that America has just recently begun providing again due to a continuation of funding that was "put on hold" during President Bush's presidency. This aid includes education and contraception. Next is ...

The problem with women's reproductive rights is that by the current standards men have none, i.e., women are given too much, which consequently puts the burden of all responsibility on men without giving them any input or options at all. This is what the feminist mantra should be: "My body, my choice, my responsibility!"

absteinence programs do not work, we must advise them to use condoms, im for pro choice, its up to the women what she wants to do, governments shouldnt get involved.

Sadly I feel abortion is the lesser evil than the results of pregnancies that are not wanted or able to be supported. I think anyone who is pro choice takes the subject seriously and feels a great deal of remorse at the action and would take another coarse of action if that were possible for them.

1) I'm so glad that there are now no more rules about aid, like the ones which required emphasis on teaching about monogamy, or that organizations needed to denounce prostitution before receiving aid. 2) I believe in comprehensive sex education. In fact, I truly, honestly believe that the world would be a better place if Carol Queen, Tristan Taormino, Susie Bright, Patrick Califia, Marty ...

"The right to choose" is an interesting phrase. The fetus would choose to live, but because they can't speak, they have no rights. Yet a 1-month old baby who cannot speak has rights. Also, manslaughter against a pregnant mother brings two counts of manslaughter in a court of law. Yet the same woman could stop the beating heart of her own fetus, and it's not criminal. This is ...

i think abstinence only programs are stupid. it's like when a kid asks 'why' you answer 'just because'. i especially hate those programs which tell kids lies about why they shouldn't have sex. yes, teach kids abstinence but they need to know the truth about why they shouldn't. i think abortion should only be given in the event of danger to the mother or in the cases or rape. if you think you...

I think sex ed should be better, and birth control, condoms, etc should be federally funded. I dont think abortion should be funded. If people screw up and the girl gets pregnant, she should pay for her own mistake. I think abortion should be legal, but limited to a short time period. But I also think abortion should be the absolute last resort. The parents should take care of the kid, or put it ...

1) Aid which is 'tied' to enable countries to only use it on what the donor wants is actually bribe money, not aid. If you give aid, why not allow people to decide how THEY want to use it, even if you don't 'approve'? This gives the recipient respect and some autonomy. There is always the choice not to give. 2) Abstinence only programmes are partial education. It's like saying to someone ~ ...

1. An abstinence-only program could only work in an abstinent-favoring society, otherwise, especially in America, there are too many messages to go the other way. Without proper information, this could be disastrous. This is not to say people who are informed make good choices, but are at least given the means to do so. Ultimately I think the choice should be made on a local basis. The Bay Area ...

Abstinence-only sex ed only causes more problems. Let's face it, teens will do what they want to regardless of how many adults are telling them not to have sex. With comprehensive sex ed, they get the full information. They know all the risks and all the ways to protect themselves, including abstinence. I don't see why a comprehensive sex educator can't stress abstinence as the most effective choice for young people...

3. I think that deciding to get an abortion is a difficult decision. Making blanket statements like "abortion is murder" does not take into account difficult individual circumstances. In a perfect world, abortion would be unnecessary. Morally, I believe that abortion is murder. Yes, I see the contradiction. 2. Abstinence-only sex ed programs fail to give complete information. How can people be expected to make intelligent...

Bush never really took a pro sex education, stance anywhere. Not here in the states he tripled the money going to the abstinence only programs and not over seas as you stated already cut off funding. Heck look into the pregnancy rates of his own state TX. Abstinence only programs Do NOT work, the teens are statistically just as likely to have sex as teen who where taught sex-ed. But then they dont know about contraception stds ect...
